The Southern Connecticut State University Women’s Studies Program was proud to host its Fifteenth Annual Women’s Studies Conference, on October 28, and 29, 2005, in conjunction with the Southern Connecticut State University Women’s Center.
This years conference entitled "Asian & Pacific Women: Indigenous and Diasporic featured keynote speaker, Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak; Avalon Foundation Professor in the Humanities at Columbia University, who teaches English and Cultural Politics. She is also active in rural literacy, the International Women's Movement, and the struggle for Ecological Justice. Among Dr. Spivak’s long list of critical works are In Other Worlds; Outside in the Teaching Machine; Critique of Postcolonial Reason; Imperatives to Reimagine the Planet; and Death of a Discipline. She is also translator of Imaginary Maps; Breast Stories; Old Women; and Songs for Kali.
